January 3, 2022: January update on COVID.

First, anyone saying "pandemic of the unvaccinated" is either deeply ignorant or a malicious liar. In many countries, the majority of people spreading COVID are vaccinated.

Second, Omicron has been around long enough to say that there is good news in that it does not result in nearly the hospitalization or death of Delta. That is true for every group, and those still saying "wait and see" will agree with that in a month or so at most.

Third, there is still enough of a difference in hospitalization cases between vaccinated and unvaccinated to indicate that vaccines are working in one way, they are mitigating the impact of COVID.

Fourth, I am not aware of anything indicating how many of the hospitalized unvaccinated people are COVID recovered. I suspect that natural immunity is still quite potent. I cannot prove this. If you are high risk, Omicron is not as bad as Delta, if you are low risk, Omicron is also not as bad as Delta.

Fifth, with a broken testing system, lying politicians who promised and failed to deliver tests etc, the true rate of spread of Omicron is massively larger than the "case counts" you are getting from local health authorities. Also given how (thankfully) mild COVID is in this new strain, massive numbers of people are not aware they have it.

Sixth, the new approved COVID treatments, as well as Prozac (who knew it could help) means that we are marching along toward a time when very few people die from COVID not only because of a milder strain but also because of more effective treatment.

If you are young and healthy (low risk), your concern about dying of COVID at this point should be lower than your concern was about dying from influenza in 2018 (because it was more likely).

Governmental mitigation at this point is a laughable failure at preventing COVID spread, and the majority of the fully tested and vaccinated scientists in Antarctica at the Belgian research station have COVID. None are hospitalized (also as far as I know none are elderly or obese which I assume would disqualify them from the positions there).

Please do not be one of the ignorant who pretend that "if only they did X we would stop COVID". Please do continue to monitor the hospitalization and death rates and realize there is a solid argument that says "if only you did X you would mitigate the hospitalization and death from COVID".

Almost everyone reading this is likely to both get COVID in the Omicron wave, and to be fine when you get it. If you are planning a trip, I would say isolate yourself until you leave, as COVID won't ruin your health but could ruin your trip. Be careful not to expose high-risk people if possible, but also realize at this point, all but a handful of high-risk people are only still high-risk in the United States because they chose to be.

More concerning to me than COVID at this point is the absolute clarity that big tech works with big government to suppress the truth that they find inconvenient. Big brother is here, 1984 is here, and Joe Rogan has become an unlikely hero against the villains that include the biased agenda-oriented folks who own and run the medium I am posting this on. Make sure you find ways to connect with the voices you trust that are outside the places where no matter their credentials are vulnerable to being deplatformed, especially if they spread the "Disinformation" that the naked emperor does not in fact have beautiful and lovely clothing.

You will die. It is incredibly unlikely you will die from COVID, but I pray you will prepare yourself for eternity. COVID may be a blessing in stripping away the bizarre shared delusion of immortality that seems to have gripped so much of the United States. There are people who love you who want you to experience the great love of God for eternity. If you have already been rescued, pray for clear chances to reach out to those around you who have not been. There is a great banquet table and we get to add people to the invite list. Have a great week!
